Coventry Biennial / SPACEX

We are delighted to announce that partner organisation Spatial Practices in Art and ArChitecture for Empathetic EXchange (SPACEX) are offering 3 micro-bursaries for CV-based artists, writers and community activists to attend a SpaceX training event and public forum on Arts and the urban commons in Coventry on June 30 and July 1 2022.

SPACEX are offering two bursaries of £150 to support creative practitioners to attend the two-day Spacex training event at Coventry University’s Centre for Postdigital Cultures. Day one introduces ethnographic research, field research and participant observation methods, bringing researchers that have been working with publics through participation and creative practices to share their work. Day Two consists of a public forum entitled Arts and the Urban Commons: new visions for a phoenix city and is held at the LTB showrooms, a pop-up artspace in Coventry. Artists, curators and scholars share their work and ideas around the city and culture’s role in living together empathetically.  The bursaries are available for CV-postcode applicants who are invested in processes of commoning, community and public art in their practice, or who would like to learn about these themes.

There is also a writer’s bursary of £300 on offer for a creative practitioner to attend the Arts and the urban commons forum, and to write a 1,000 word review of the event. The bursary recipient will receive mentoring / support from Mel Jordan (SPACEX). This bursary is intended to support an artist who wants to develop their critical / art writing. The bursary is available for a CV postcode applicant who may have interests in contemporary art, arts–led regeneration, placemaking, public art and socially–engaged art.

SPACEX a new cross-continental and cross-disciplinary research project. It brings together academic and cultural organisations from across Europe (and beyond) to develop and to build stronger networks that aim to test, map, analyse, communicate and maximise the ways in which art, architecture and design instigate public exchange and promote empathetic ways of living together. As one of SPACEX’s partner cultural institutions we look forward to completing and hosting secondments with some of SPACEX’s partner cultural and academic organisations over the coming years.
